‘THE PASTOR’S PILLOW!’ – Are You Spreading Lies?

Some people are like billy goats. Why? Because they go around “but-ing” everyone! They will say, “But,” every time they hear something that they don’t want to accept. Even when you tell them the TRUTH, they start to BUT, BUT, BUT!–just like a billy goat. “I like what you are doing, but…”, “He’s a nice man but…”, “Yes, I know you are right, but…” There once was a very “but-ing” woman who did not like what a certain Godly old pastor would say to her. One day the old man’s words were more than she could bear. It was the truth “BUT” it made her so angry that she really began to “butt”. She went everywhere telling lies and evil stories about him. She tried very hard to turn all of the people against him with her terrible talk and gossip. But the more she talked the sadder she became. At last she was very very unhappy, and began to feel sorry for all the lies she had told.

Finally, in tears, the woman went to the pastor’s house to ask him to forgive her, “I have told so many lies about you,” she said, “please forgive me.”

The old man did not answer her for a long time. He seemed to be deep in thought and prayer. At last he said, “Yes, I will forgive you, but FIRST you must do something for ME.”“What do you want me to DO?” she said, a little surprised.

“Come with me up to the bell tower and I will show you,” he said, looking straight into her eyes, “but first I need to get something from my room.”

When the pastor returned from his room, he carried a big feather pillow under his arm. The poor woman could hardly hide her surprise and growing curiosity.

The flustered woman could hardly keep from asking what the pillow was for, and why they were going up to the bell tower. However, she kept silent, and a little out of breath they finally reached the church bell tower.

The wind blew softly through the big open windows of the bell tower. From the tower, they could see far out into the countryside that stretched out beyond the village.

Suddenly, without saying anything, the pastor ripped open the pillow and dumped all of the feathers out of the window. The wind and the little breezes caught the feathers and carried them everywhere: Out onto the rooftops, into the streets, under cars, up into trees, out into the backyards where the children were playing, and even out to the  big highway, and on and on farther still into the distance.

The pastor and the woman watched the feathers flutter away for some time. At last the old man turned to the woman and said, “Now I want you to go and pick up all of those feathers for me.”

“Pick up all of those feathers?” she gasped. “But that is impossible!”

“Yes, I know.” said the pastor. “Those feathers are like your lies about me. What you have started, you cannot stop, even if you are sorry. You may be able to tell a few people that you lied about me, but the winds of gossip have carried your lies EVERYWHERE.

You can blow out a MATCH, but you cannot blow out the great forest fire that one match can START!

“Even so the tongue is a little member. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth.” (James 3:5)

Are you spreading untruths?

Are you spreading untruths about somebody or some bodies because the Lord allowed something in your life that is hard to overcome and makes you bitter and vindictive and makes you want o take it out on others, even some others who have nothing whatsoever to do with the things that are making you upset, bitter, and vindictive?

Cry out to God to give you clarity and a new vision on things, and beg him to deliver you from the Devil’s lies that are polluting your brain that you are seeing evil everywhere, instead of seeing the good and positive, even in the people you suspect of doing you harm, but who in fact have nothing to do with your cross or burden or loss or whatever.

It is the Devil that makes us hateful and vindictive and vengeful. No one else. Besides the Lord knows why He allowed this cross and loss in your life. He let it happen for a reason! Perhaps to test your mettle, your loyalty to Him, your fealty, like He did to Job. Even Job didn’t blame his useless counselors for the evil that befell him, nor even the desert tribes that stole his flocks, nor the hurricane that killed his children and destroyed his family’s houses.

Job knew that ALL things come of God somehow, and actually Job was smart enough to know that it was God who was taking him to task, not the Sabaeans or the hurricane, yet not smart enough to see that somehow the Lord allowed the Devil to test him. Why!

The Devil wanted to see whether Job was going to give up trusting God! – and God allowed him, knowing – in JOB’s case – that he was going to be tempted, but would ultimately not accuse God for his losses. Finally Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him!” Will you? Are you? Or are you blaming GOD, and the Devil, and PEOPLE who have nothing to do with the losses that godless people or relatives have afflicted on you?

If you are in such a situation an evil mindset, ask God to deliver you from the Devil’s delusions, and get back to your perfect trust in HIM, because if you pass the test – like Job – God is very able to restore the things or people that you lost to the Devil and his crowd.

Do you think God is limited, or do you believe and know that HE is all powerful? Well, then stop trusting in your own shenanigans and let HIM have His perfect way, and He will take care of any predicament you might find your self in. Give God a chance.

Are you in the fires of His testing? It says, “Rejoice!” And wait on God to deliver you from the fiery furnace the Devil and his crowd has thrown you in. God is able to deliver you, without even the smell of smoke, and He promised He would be with you in the fire, and will get you out of it whole and perfect.

Even if not… like the martyrs who lost not only family, children, relatives, but their very freedom, bodies in the fire or under the executioners’ axe, they went singing to their death, full of joy they accepted the cup of suffering and loss gracefully, and didn’t protest or throw away their faith in God. They went ALL the way down to the defeat of self and loss of live up to the victory of the cross to suffer and to die for others, as a testimony.

I know from experience. Though I haven’t been asked to sacrifice my life yet, I have been allowed to suffer the loss of my children, my loves, my relatives, and more. And though it was hard to take, I came through and accepted it as from God’s hands. I was tempted to blame Man but I finally overcame and submitted to the chastening and suffering as if from HIS hand alone, and He delivered me finally.

It took some time in some cases, but He did finally deliver me from hate and sensitivity and accusations and vindictive vengeance and an evil disposition, and I found joy in spite of the many losses, and was finally happy that I had nothing left but Jesus! And HE was and is all that matters, anyway. He didn’t even return my children I lost, but He gave me many other spiritual children, and loved ones that filled in the empties.

Will you give up the evil accusations and dispositions? THEN God will reward you with victory and restore your soul. After all…

23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (lack)
23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
